SEARCH MODES

To discover the resources of the PAM, four search methods are available:

  • Simple search
  • Random search
  • Random search
  • Thematic exploration
Simple search

This search can be done from the home page or from inside the site, in the bar dedicated to this use.
This search can be done from the home page or from inside the site, in the bar dedicated to this use.

It is possible to search on one or several terms by using the operators ET (and), OU (or), SAUF (without). The default operator is ET.
For example: Faust decor = decor ET Faust
By starting this search all the documents containing the words “decor” and “Faust” will come up.

It is also possible to carry out more complex searches with logical operators and the use of brackets.
For example: Glove puppets SAUF (Guignol OU Gnafron) = glove puppet – (Guignol or Gnafron).
By launching this search all the documents from files containing the term “glove puppet” will appear, except for those containing the word “Guignol” or the word “Gnafron”.

Do not forget to leave a space between the operators and the words searched for.

The star (*) may replace one or several characters and enable the user to obtain all the terms which have the same root.
For example: the request “teach*” will bring up images with terms teacher, teaching etc.

This system may be used for the beginning, middle or end of a word. If it is used alone in the search window, it may bring up all the photos or media contained in the base.

NB: The search is not sensitive to regular plurals in French, characters with accents and upper/lower case characters.
For example: arts associés = art associé = art associe = ART ASSOCIE

Random search

By clicking on the “Random” button on the home page or in the menu on the left of the interface for consulting resources online, a document will be obtained randomly picked from the Video, Images or Objects bases from the PAM.

Advanced search

Advanced search enables the user to carry out more exact searches on certain fields proposed on the base. It allows combination of criteria.
Requests may concern one or several fields linked by logical operators
For certain fields, it is possible to access help lists.
By default, the logical operator is the “et”.

NB: The search is dynamic: only terms which give results are proposed to users.

Thematic exploration

This search is carried out in the form of a dynamic directory structure. It is possible to pull down the directory structure to consult all the terms.
A click on the term in the structure will launch the search.

DISPLAYING RESULTS

The system offers three modes of display:

  • Mosaic of thumbnails
  • List of thumbnails accompanied by an extract from the notice
  • Notice: complete notice on the document, with possibility to zoom on the medium.

A click on the corresponding pictograms will enable the user to go from one mode of presentation to another.
Whatever the mode of display, the browser pad remains available.

Above the result window, the number of results corresponding to the search appears, as well as the number of pages of results.
Browsing in the pages of results may be from one page to another or by using the scroll bar.

At the top right of the thread, several sort filters are proposed, by update, by alphabetical order of titles, by chronological order of creation, etc.
